Biography

"The conductor and pianist Lukas Rommelspacher (born 1992) has been working at the Frankfurt Opera since the 2018/2019 season. Last season, he conducted performances of Dittersdorf's Doktor und Apotheker(Doctor and Apothecary) and Rossini's Bianca e Falliero. He made his debut at the Frankfurt Opera in April 2023 with his own production of Benjamin Britten's The Prodigal Son and The Burning Fiery Furnace. In the 2023/2024 season, he took over performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Ascanio in Alba. In 2023, he was repeatedly invited to the Junge Oper Schloss Weikersheim as head of music, chorus master, and assistant, where he conducted performances of Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Bizet's Carmen.
In Frankfurt, he rehearsed and assisted with numerous operas in past seasons, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Sebastian Weigle, Elias Grandy, Alexander Soddy, and Sylvain Cambreling. In 2022, he worked at the prestigious Tyrolean Festival Erl. In December 2024 and January 2025, he assisted Music Director Alain Altinoglu with the new production of Wagner's Götterdämmerung at the Brussels opera house La Monnaie.
In recent years, he has conducted further performances with the National Youth Orchestra of Germany (Bundesjugendorchester), at the Stadttheater Gießen, and with the Orchestra Giovanile Filarmonici Friulani. From 2014 to 2018, he served as conductor of the Junge Marburger Philharmonie, where he performed major works such as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Other conducting engagements have led him to the Concerto Armonico Freiburg, the Jugend Sinfonie Orchester Wetzlar, the Junge Hessische Philharmonie, the Rheinische Orchester Akademie Mainz, and the Festival of Young Artists Bayreuth. Lukas Rommelspacher is the founder and artistic director of the Clara Schumann Orchestra Frankfurt, which he established in 2019. Since October 2024, he has held a teaching position in orchestral conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK).
Lukas Rommelspacher's concert activities as a pianist have already taken him to the Berlin Philharmonie (performing J. Brahms' First Piano Concerto), the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Villa Wahnfried, the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, the Schumann House Zwickau, and the Beethoven House Bonn, as well as to the renowned Schubertiade in Hohenems last April. He has performed as a soloist with the Orchester Berliner Musikfreunde, the Student Orchestra of Dr. Hoch's Conservatory, the Junge Hessische Philharmonie, the German Youth Chamber Choir (Deutscher Jugendkammerchor), the Junge Sinfoniker Frankfurt, and the Collegium Musicum Berlin, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Winfried Toll and Frieder Bernius. He completed his studies with Axel Gremmelspacher and Eric Le Sage, as well as with Uwe Sandner and Eugen Wangler at the universities of music in Frankfurt and Freiburg."
